Welcome back to a new academic semester and another opportunity for reset. I have said as much to a number of students this week as many are already worrying about what they can do differently or improve from past terms. My approach is slightly different-- I ask the question of what can you let go of, and trust you have already learned, in order to make the best run at another blank slate (or new canvas, if I want to speak in art metaphors). In past blog posts reflecting on this time of year, I have talked about how fortunate I feel to be in a profession that allows for continued opportunities for renewal. It is a rhythm built into the very architecture of our education system-- one that every one of us, regardless of our final chosen profession, can harness and embrace. So here's to another September. May it open up a chance for a fresh beginning, and if nothing else, an opportunity to flush (as my dear friend Nancy Duff would say) what has come before. Enjoy the links and have a great week!
